Home recording essentials

Based on my teaching background from top sound engineering schools like Abbey Road Institute, Catalyst Berlin, and BIMM, I’ve designed a course to help beginners of all ages bring their musical ideas to life from the comfort of their own home. No prior recording experience needed.

We’ll start by determining the ideal setup for your recording environment and needs, choosing the right software, audio interface, and microphones.
With the foundations in place, we’ll dive in to the basics such as microphone positioning, setting the right recording level as well as software recording settings. Beyond the fundamentals, this course will assist you in improving the sound of your recordings with basic editing and mixing techniques.

structure

The course is made of 7 lessons of 2 hours (14 hours in total) and focuses on practical experience.

Lesson 1 – Choosing the right Microphone and Audio Interface

Lesson 2 – Software Basics

Lesson 3 – Recording Vocals

Lesson 4 – Recording Guitar and Bass

Lesson 5 – Acoustic and software Pianos

Lesson 6 – Introduction to Mixing

Lesson 7 – Mastering Basics

At the end of each lesson you will receive a mixing task to prepare for the next lesson. The course should ideally run for 7 consecutive weeks but the timeline can be adjusted to fit your schedule.

Theory on microphone technology, room acoustics, audio digitization etc will be covered briefly as we encounter these topics in different songs, ensuring practical application without wasting time on theory that can’t be put into practice.

This is an Online Course offered via Zoom in combination with high quality audio streaming via Audiomovers so that there is no compromise on sound quality.

I offer this course in Pro Tools, Logic Pro X and Ableton Live.

at the end of the course you will:

Understand the differences between various microphone types and how to use each one for its intended purpose.
Know how to professionally record vocals and instruments, as well as utilize software instruments.
Learn how to enhance the sound of your recordings through basic editing and mixing techniques.
Gain the ability to independently upload your music directly to streaming services such as YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud, Bandcamp, and others.
Receive an official Studio Internship Certificate as well as a Personal Recommendation Letter which will help you to get further in your career as a sound engineer. These could also be used for academic purposes.

Price

The price for each 2 hour lesson is 70€ including tax but if you pay the whole course at once you will receive a discount of 70€ (420€ in total instead of 490€)
